American individuals have bantered over the authorization of weed for a long time. This conversation is a case of how the US have battled to agree about the utilization of pot. In ongoing year’s tranquilize strategy have been progressively tested, particularly in America. In the United States a gathering of almost twenty states has permitted the clinical utilization of weed, despite the fact that neither the central government nor the United Nations Convention perceive that pot has clinical employments. In the appointment of November 2012, Washington State passed a submission, and Colorado an alteration to its Constitution, which permit the recreational utilization of pot. Presumably the most disputable news until today is that numerous organizations would start to disperse maryjane in candy machines as though they were soft drinks this will be routed to the open who use weed for clinical purposes, a patient with a genuine ailment that moves toward a candy machine to get a portion of pot to adapt better to specific manifestations of their sickness or treatment is an inexorably regular act because of the advancement accomplished by the programmed conveyance. For example, he says, The negative symptoms of clinical weed fail to measure up to the clothing list related with various physician endorsed drugs that are FDA approvedâ€not to make reference to tobacco and liquor, significantly more addictive items available that have no therapeutic worth, just adverse. Moreover, right now accessible agony prescriptions have been demonstrated profoundly addictive, and their utilization and multiplication have prompted a plague of synthetic reliance and related wrongdoing. On the off chance that the enormous players in the business had huge likely gains from clinical maryjane, it would have been authorized at the government level years back. What Scott M. Arden is stating is that it has neither rhyme nor reason the possibility of clinical weed. In this way, clearly that it will be equivalent to with different medications available that are addictive. There are a few people who believe that more states ought to legitimize in any event clinical maryjane for the individuals who truly need it. One of the solid supporters of clinical pot is Karen Bender. She is certain that with extra examination clinical pot may profit numerous individuals. Truth be told, she says, â€Å"Medical cannabis, as endorsed drugs, may profit individuals with MS†. What dr inking spree implies is that, if the American government is happy to keep denying clinical maryjane, American individuals could never know whether is the correct activity. It is essentially implies that labs and individuals had practical experience in the field of clinical cannabis ought to accomplish more examination to decide the beneficial things about it and the awful things and by what means will influence society. Sanctioning pot will spare the administration $ 41.3 billion every year in law-requirement and produce $ 46.7 billion in charge as indicated by The Libertarian Cato Institute yet Chris Kennedy a representative of the diary â€Å"NEWSWEEK† tells that â€Å"all of our researchers unquestionably bolster a conclusion to drugâ prohibition.† He believes that as opposed to denying pot government ought to authorized it, as per The Libertarian Cato Institute. It is essentially implies that authorizing maryjane is the best activity for monetary reasons, that’s why there’s such huge numbers of debate in the financial execution, an excessive amount of cash included. There are very few individuals, who bolster the authorization of maryjane, for the most part since they believe won't help American economy. A great many people care about the national security due to fear based oppressors and street pharmacists. One individual who obviously restricts authorization of maryjane is Pat Buchanan, a counselor to presidents Nixon, Ford, and Reagan , he sure trusts American individuals is financing fear based oppressors and street pharmacists. He communicated his conclusion in â€Å"NEWSWEEK† diary. For example, he says, How can one win a medication war when a large number of Americans who utilize recreational medications are financing the cartels paying off, killing, and executing to win the war and keep liberal Americans provided with drugs? There are two certain approaches to end this war quickly. Milton’s way and Mao’s way. Mao Zedong’s socialists murdered clients and providers the same, as social parasites. Milton Friedmanà ¢â‚¬â„¢s path is to decriminalize medications and cancel the war. What Buchanan is truly discussing is that most Americans are supporting and financing the cartels, and that Americans are contending simultaneously for the security when they are the reason for sedate cartels having influence, that’s why hoodlums keep enhancing illegally. There are not that numerous legislators who bolster the sanctioning of pot. One lawmaker who bolsters the sanctioning of pot is Tom Tancredo who was running for legislative leader of Colorado on the constitution party ticket. He proclaims that maryjane ought to be (Legalize it. Control it. Assessment it) He communicated his conclusion in â€Å"NEWSWEEK† diary. For example, he says, with respect to pot, I have no designs to push for its authorization. Another primary contention needs to manage the Mexican outskirt. There is another legislator who underpins the sanctioning of pot. It’s Grover Norquist, leader of Americas for charge change, he pronounces that the sanctioning of maryjane willâ end with medicate cartels. For example, he says, First, there is the wreckage that is Mexico. Narcoterrorism is made conceivable by our medication preclusion in the U.S. At that point there is the expense of detainment, Proposition 19 has the chance to be the domino that could realize discerning medication strategy across the nation. What Norquist is truly taking about is that next vote in California possibly in support of Proposition 19, which tries to legitimize the utilization, conveyance and offer of pot has driven, in the United States and Mexico, a discussion on the authorization of medications. Recommendation 19 likewise plans to permit the development of maryjane by grown-ups in a region not surpassing 25 square feet in their homes and permitted neighborhood governments to control and gather charges on business creation and circulation of the medication. The United Nations (UN) appraises that 33% of the cannabis expended in the U.S. is created locally. Under the new laws of sanctioning, weed stores should deliver their own cannabis, and will take a while for some capacity to make its first yield of recreational maryjane. $ 600 million yearly leave year the offer of weed in Colorado. An investigation by Colorado State University evaluated that the market for legitimate pot state will be around 600 million dollars every year and produce about $ 130 million in new expenses. The examination likewise assessed that Colorado inhabitants expend around 100 grams of weed for each capita every year, under the new guidelines. One individual who obviously pronounces that fighting medications isn't the best approach to take care of all issues related with drugs as viciousness, is James A. Inciardi, a chief of the inside for medication and liquor contemplates. He communicated his perspectives in the book, The Drug Legalization Debate. For example, he says, â€Å"War on Drugs† isn't the responses to the numerous issues of medication maltreatment in this nation. I arrive at this resolution by seeing that during the whole time the nation has been at war against drugs there has been no endeavor in any organization to put the government offices and the American individuals on a wartime status. There are a few attributes of a nation at war that have not been met. In spite of the fact that it is clear for the vast majority, Legalization is anything but an enchantment recipe to end viciousness, it might resolve different difficult issues in the nation yet it is an important positive development for another worldview that implies greater security. Admissions Tests for International Students. What to Expect

Most US universities and colleges attract international students from around the globe. The admissions process requires all applicants to take one or more standardized admissions tests. The results of these tests, along with your application packet, essays, transcripts, references, work experience and college applications are all sent for consideration when making a decision about your admission. The purpose of a standardized admissions test is to ensure that all applicants, irrespective of their educational and cultural background, are judged on the same criteria for admittance. However, in many cases this is easier said than done. Since the tests are designed for students who are educated in the United States, students from other parts of the world, especially those who might not be very proficient in English, have difficulty attempting the test. The test scores, therefore, are not the only criteria used to appraise your application. Most schools look at the separate components of your test scores to determine your abilities and skill sets. An engineering school, for example, would pay more attention to your math scores than verbal ones. The English department, on the other hand, would consider applicants who have scored high in the verbal section of the test. However, a basic level of English proficiency is desired by all departments as it affects your ability to successfully complete the academic program. English test requirements for graduate students are usually higher than those for undergraduate ones. Since they might serve as teaching assistants, graduate students have to score higher in English proficiency tests such as reading, writing, speaking and listening. Types of Standardized Tests for International Students Following are some of the main tests that all international students have to take in order to apply for admission in an American college or university. All tests listed below are given in English: For Undergraduate Admissions: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). American College Testing (ACT). Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). For Graduate Admissions: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) – for business schools. Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) – for liberal arts, science, math. Law School Admission Testing Program (LSAT) – for law schools. Dental Admission Testing Program (DAT) – for dental schools. Optometry Admission Testing Program (OAT). Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) – for medical schools. Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). Some schools and academic institutions might take other local tests as well. These tests might be for placement of the student in a specific program. Regardless of what test you take, it is important to prepare for it beforehand so that you are equipped with the right knowledge and skills to ace it. If you find a specific subject hard or have trouble with the English language, you can either self-study or hire a tutor to help you with the subject at hand. Since these tests will decide your academic fate, it is essential to take them seriously and know what to expect rather than go into the test and panic because you did not prepare yourself for it.

The customers are today far more exposed to a complex voice/data infrastructure. Following this, an increasing number of customers are getting increasingly conscious about service quality and require better and measurable service level agreements. Service quality is more and more an actual measurable parameter. Consequently the price of service agreement will depend upon both agreed and supplied quality of service. The Challenge is to compose a good service offering at a reasonable price. To achieve this it is crucial to industrialize the production of services. Operations Management Today, services are to a great extend executed manually. Many of these service tasks are repetitive, time consuming and tedious. In addition, the service tasks are of such a nature that competence and experience is required to perform the actual service. As a consequence, skilled technicians are designated to perform relatively basic work. In many cases this turns out to be expensive and wrong deployment of valuable resources. Experience shows that an average service task takes up to 20 minutes to perform. This is because different persons execute the various tasks at different times with varying routines. Additionally critical information such as equipment passwords, inventory data and traffic analysis data are stored on different places, making it difficult to administer efficiently. Privatization in India free essay sample

Ram Mohan Visiting Faculty, Finance and Accounting Area Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, India Abstract The proposed research is intended to survey the process of privatization in India and assess its impact on the Indian economy. The central issue we will address is the impact of privatization that has taken place so far on profitability and performance of PSUs. Going beyond this, we will attempt to understand what explains the impact of privatization on performance. Is it the use of market power by oligopolistic firms whose pricing power had been constrained under government ownership ? Is performance bought at the expense of labour through extensive layoffs so that what we see is essentially a transfer from workers to shareholders ? Or are we confusing the impact of privatization with the more generalised impact of deregulation in the economy, which in itself could spur efficiency ? The research output will comprise the following: 1. A survey of the literature on privatization, particularly with respect to less developed countries. Impact of privatization on firm performance. 4. Explanation for the impact of privatization 5. Assessment of mechanisms of corporate governance in India. -2- I. Background: privatization in theory and practice A great wave of privatization has swept the world in the past two decades, embracing the industrial economies, the transition economies of East Europe and large parts of the less developed world, and it continues to roll on. It is interesting, however, that its basis in theory was somewhat shaky to start with. Moreover, a sizable enough body of empirical evidence, on which hypotheses about its impact could be tested, became available only several years down the road. So much of the initial impetus to privatization entailed a leap in faith, and, as happens all too often in the development of knowledge, attempts to explain its impact have followed on the heels of widespread existing practice. Privatization In india free essay sample Privatisation, also spelled privatization, may have several meanings. Primarily, it is the process of transferring ownership of a business, enterprise, agency, public service, or public property from the public sector (a government) to the private sector, either to a business that operates for a profit or to a nonprofit organization. It may also mean government outsourcing of services or functions to private firms, e. g. revenue collection, law enforcement, and prison management. Privatization has also been used to describe two unrelated transactions. The first is the buying of all outstanding shares of a publicly traded company by a single entity, making the company privately owned. This is often described as private equity. The second is a demutualization of a mutual organization or cooperative to form a joint-stock company ? Definition of Privatization 1) The transfer of ownership of property or businesses from a government to a privately owned entity. 2) The transition from a publicly traded and owned company to a company which is privately owned and no longer trades publicly on a stock exchange. We will write a custom essay sample on Privatization In india or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When a publicly traded company becomes private, investors can no longer purchase a stake in that company. 3)The process in which a publicly-traded company is taken over by a few people is also called privatization. The stock of the company is no longer traded in the stock market and the general public is barred from holding stake in such a company. EXAMPLE: If an individual or organization purchases all the stock in a publicly-traded company, that effectively makes it private, so that process is sometimes described as privatization. However, in contrast to the primary understanding of privatization, the company in question is in the private sector to begin with and remains there. Features of Privatization Espousing market principles by public policy makers has evolved as one of the prominent characteristics of the contemporary public enterprise management which encompasses privatization as a primary facet. Privatization of State- owned enterprises has developed as a critical tool for economic policies pertaining to progress and development of developing countries. One of the prominent feature of privatization is the enhanced competitive characteristics it provides to the enterprises which prove to be fruitful for the business as well as the country. However, privatization contracts are greatly influenced by merger variables and even global issues and are structured on the basis of manipulation of the government and the private players along with the administering jurisdiction.

Thomas Jefferson Essays - Thomas Jefferson, Free Essays, Term Papers

Thomas Jefferson Essays - Thomas Jefferson, Free Essays, Term Papers Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson is remembered in history not only for the offices he held, but also for his belief in the natural rights of man as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and his faith in the people?s ability to govern themselves. He left an impact on his times equaled by few others in American history. Born on April 13, 1743, Jefferson was the third child in the family and grew up with six sisters and one brother. Though he opposed slavery, his family had owned slaves. From his father and his environment he developed an interest in botany, geology, cartography, and North American exploration, and from his childhood teacher developed a love for Greek and Latin. In 1760, at the age of 16, Jefferson entered the College of William and Mary and studied under William Small and George Wythe. Through Small, he got his first views of the expansion of science and of the system of things in which we are placed. Through Small and Wythe, Jefferson became acquainted with Governor Francis Fauquier. After finishing college in 1762, Jefferson studied law with Wythe and noticed growing tension between America and Great Britain. Jefferson was admitted to the bar in 1767. He successfully practiced law until public service occupied most of his time. At his home in Shadwell, he designed and supervised the building of his home, Monticello, on a nearby hill. He was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1769. Jefferson met Martha Wayles Skelton, a wealthy widow of 23, in 1770 and married her in 1772. They settled in Monticello and had one son and five daughters. Only two of his children, Martha and Mary, survived until maturity. Mrs. Martha Jefferson died in 1782, leaving Thomas to take care of his two remaining children. Though not very articulate, Jefferson proved to be an able writer of laws and resolutions he was very concise and straight to the point. Jefferson soon became a member in a group which opposed and took action in the disputes between Britain and the colonies. Together with other patriots, the group met in the Apollo Room of Williamsburg?s famous Raleigh Tavern in 1769 and formed a nonimportation agreement against Britain, vowing not to pay import duties imposed by the Townshend Acts. After a period of calmness, problems faced the colonists again, forcing Jefferson to organize another nonimportation agreement and calling the colonies together to protest. He was chosen to represent Albermarle County at the First Virginia Convention, where delegates were elected to the First Continental Congress. He became ill and was unable to attend the meeting, but forwarded a message arguing that the British Parliament had no control over the colonies. He also mentioned the Saxons who had settled in England hundred of years before from Germany and how Parliament had no more right to govern the colonies than the Germans had to govern the English. Most Virginians saw this as too extreme, though. His views were printed in a pamphlet called A Summary of the Rights of British America (1774). Jefferson attended the Second Virginia Convention in 1775 and was chosen as one of the delegates to the Second Continental Congress, but before he left for Philadelphia, he was asked by the Virginia Assembly to reply to Lord North?s message of peace, proposing that Parliament would not try to tax the settlers if they would tax themselves. Jefferson?s "Reply to Lord North" was more moderate that the Summary View. Instead of agreeing with Lord North, Jefferson insisted that a government had been set up for the Americans and not for the British. The Declaration of Independence was primarily written by Jefferson in June 1776. Congress felt that the Declaration was too strong and gave Dickinson the responsibility of redrafting the document, but the new version included much of Jefferson?s original text and ideas. In 1779, Jefferson became governor of Virginia, guiding Virginians through the final years of the Revolutionary War. As a member of the Second Continental Congress, he drafted a plan for decimal coinage and composed an ordinance for the Northwest Territory that formed the foundation for the Ordinance of 1787. In 1785, he became minister to France. Appointed secretary

Current issues in entrepreneurship Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Current issues in entrepreneurship - Coursework Example In addition to these staples, many quick-service restaurants sell an extensive menu of Western, Mexican, Greek, and Chinese foods. Some fast-food outlets offer specialty items, like sushi, clams, or ribs, and others even sell complete "home-cooked" meals over their counters. Though menus and delivery formats vary greatly, fast food's chief common denominators include immediate customer service, packaging "to go," and inexpensive pricing. However, despite the pervasive reputation of fast food in modern American culture, criticisms proliferate. Since the 1930s, articles and books have censured the industry, purportedly divulging poor sanitary conditions, unhealthy food products, environmental problems and unfair working conditions. Whether it warrants the attention or not, the fast-food industry is still regularly cited for exploiting young workers, polluting, and contributing to obesity and other serious health problems among American consumers. Specifically, American beef consumption (fast-food hamburger industry) is often blamed for the burning of the Amazon rain forests to make way for more grazing lands for beef cattle. Former enemies of fast food cited the shocking grime of many hamburger stands, in addition to the claims that the ground beef used in sandwiches was either spoiled, diseased, or simply of low quality. In fact, many critics maintained that much of the meat used in fast-food hamburgers came from horse carcasses. Likewise, the high fat content of fast food s also became sensational. Notwithstanding deceptive industry claims about the high quality and the health benefits of their products, in the 1920s and 1930s concerned nutritionists warned the public about the medical dangers of regular burger consumption. Currently, this skepticism and condemnation of fast food persists, extending even further to include ominous vigilance regarding the industry's use of genetically modified and antibiotic-laden beef products. In many major chains, these attacks have been countered by posting calorie and nutritional charts inside restaurants, advertising and claiming the use of fresh ingredients and presenting alternatives to their fried foods. Despite a few more health-conscious items on the menu, fast-food chains today assertively promote the idea that bigger is better, thus the emergence of such offerings as "super-size" or "biggie" portions of French fries, soft drinks, and milkshakes. Critics point to this marketing emphasis as a reason for an excessive and greatly increasing per-capita caloric intake among fast-food consumers, resulting in fast-growing rates of obesity in the United States and in many parts of the world. Obesity in Children Obesity is no longer just an American problem. The UK House of Commons Health Committee gave out its finding on obesity foreseeing that obesity would soon surpass smoking as the primary health problem in the United Kingdom (House of Commons Health Committee, 2004). All throughout Europe, obesity has increased by 10%-50% within the past ten years and by as much as 75% in the developing world (IOTF, 2004). Globally, over a billion adults and children are overweight and most experts have projected that today's generation of children are likely to have shorter life expectancies than their parents because of obesity. The World Health Organization's latest global

Airport security - Government's use of invasive pat-downs and body Research Paper

Airport security - Government's use of invasive pat-downs and body scans are essential to ensure passenger safety - Research Paper Example Ten years may have come and gone, yet the consequences of that singular event have forever changed the outcome of human civilization (Mitcherner-Nissen, Bowers and Chetty, 2011). The 9/11 terrorist attacks have invariably led to the tightening of security measures being undertaken all over the world. In the United States, legislative enactments have been undertaken placing security administration and defense management among the considerations to be deemed as state priorities (Mitcherner-Nissen, Bowers and Chetty, 2011). The operation of the airport has been taken over by the federal government following clear indications that there has been significant lapses in judgment and laxity of control in airport management which have exacerbated the 9/11 attacks (Parks, 2007). As a result, the United States government took over the helm of the battle against terrorism and called for the support of all nations in the international arena (Parks, 2007). With the enhancement in security measures being undertaken in US airport terminals, there has been a move towards the utilization of advanced equipments such as whole-body scanners and backscatter scanners in addition to the physical pat-downs being performed (Mitcherner-Nissen, Bowers and Chetty, 2011). However, ethical issues have caught the attention of many people as the mentioned scanners appeared to have been too detailed in its examination stepping well into the basic human right to privacy (Schauer, 2011). But the fact remains that there are those who would argue that such is a small price to pay for the relative enjoyment of peace and security of the greater many (Mitcherner-Nissen, Bowers and Chetty, 2011). In this debacle, one thing is certain, that no matter which side wins, both sides stands to benefit and both likewise stands to be injured concomitantly. Airport Management and Operation Patankar and Holscher (2000) described the airport as a highly complex set of schematic organization that allows the entry a nd egress of persons. As such, both movements to and fro are to be considered as security concerns that require efficient administration. To this end, it is vital to determine the momentous changes that US airports may have undergone in hopes of revolutionizing its operation and precluding the occurrence of an attack comparable to the 9/11 terrorist activities. Prior to the 9/11, the airport situation in the United States has been a highly efficient private affair that revolves around the rendering of services related to and relevant to the air transport of individuals from a point of origin into a point of destination. Prior to the 9/11 there was a general sub-optimal level of security in airports in US airports (Seidenstat, 2004). However, after the attacks, the United States government saw the need to change the management of the airport facilities to the federal system marking the transition of the said facility from a implement of transportation into a tool that has the capacit y to paralyze the country (Seidenstat, 2004). The transition of the airport facility into the hands of the federal government was triggered by two major issues (Seidenstat, 2004). These are: (1) the laxity of the control measures implemented by the utilization of private security firms; (2) the failure of the government to

Adversity & 2007 albums Essay Example for Free

Adversity 2007 albums Essay Does adversity truly define somebody’s character? Adversity, as defined by Webster’s dictionary, is a state, condition, or instance of serious or continued difficulty or adverse fortune. Horace’s opinion on adversity is that without adversity in one’s life, their true character would not have an opportunity to develop. Horace derived his opinion about adversity from having to overcome an obstacle of his own. Having lost the battle with the Roman Army, his prestigious life as a general and his â€Å"prosperous circumstances†, he faced with the true challenge to overcome this defeat. His true character was tested and created an opportunity to do what was needed to survive. I agree that through adversity, one’s true character shines above the mask that is shown during ones â€Å"prosperous circumstances†. At the mere age of 16, I have overcome many situations in my life that showed me the truth to my character. The passing of my father is one example. At the time, my main concern was that the life me and my family lived would never be the same. Having lost not just a father-figure, a role model, and one of my closest friends at that age, my family lost the head of our household. I faced the challenge of caring for all the people around me who shared the same aching feeling of the loss I did, while at the same time trying to fill the void in my heart that was buried with him. Confronting the loss of so much in your life is not easy. I remember one of the largest moments during this time that made me come to terms with his loss. The first few football practices of my 6th grade year were the hardest. The occasional glance to my mom watching us practice turned my enthusiastic and serious attitude toward practice into a grieving stare as I see my father missing from the picture. I would never be able to keep playing like this. But I dug deep, and stayed dedicated to the sport that he supported me at, and with time and devotion I was able to understand that even though my father is not there physically, he will always be right there next to me on the field, cheering me on like he did in the past. Even though the physical aspect of my father is gone, I will always know that he is there with me, enjoying the best seat in the stadium. Another situation in my life that I have had to overcome adversity is the  injury in my left knee that I face today. The day I heard that I would not be able to play football my junior year, I did everything I could to distance myself from the game and my teammates. We all have those genuine fears of incidents that lead to where we cannot do hobbies or interests of ours. Imagine a graphic artist losing his hand along with his ability to draw, or a ballet dancer unable to perform in a recital because of a damaged knee. Every day is a battle. The physical strength it takes to go through a day of physical therapy, the mental strength I use to push myself to be on the field again, and the spiritual strength it takes to remind myself that I am still part of this team. Like that Gatorade commercial, â€Å"One More† mean to me that I am one more day closer to reaching my goal of playing alongside my friends, one more set of exercises to strengthen my knee, and one more opportunity to play the game that I love. I know ask myself, without adversity in my life, how would I know what type of person I am and what I value most? I wouldn’t. Had Horace not faced adversity, would his writing still be the same or at that even exist? Horace wouldn’t have needed to turn to poetry in order to save his life, but instead gone with his life as nothing but a mediocre general in the Greek Army, Instead of being the inspiring poet we know to this day.

Animal Testing for Humanity Essay -- Animal Testing Research Essays Ar

Animal Testing for Humanity   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Animal research is vital to human existence. This testing enables doctors to find treatments and cures for various diseases and aliments. The people, who object and think that 'mad' scientists preform all animal research, merely do not understand the importance. There are many regulatory acts protecting the animals in experiments, therefore proving that ending animal research all together would be a harsh blow to society.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The regulations, such as the Animal Welfare Act, which ensures that animal, care for research is a main priority. The AWA requires appropriate veterinary care, housing, feeding, handling, sanitation, ventilation, and sheltering. Also, in that act the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is required to make at least one unannounced inspection a year to each facility.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Another regulatory requirement is that the United States Department of Agriculture requires institutions to report the number of animals used in research and the number of animals that experience pain or distress. In a 1996 report to Congress, the USDA showed that eighty-nine percent of experiments reported did not involve pain or distress.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Animal research has proven to be a very controversial issue to many. Many myths surround it. Activists say that doctors to torture the animals, which is not true. These myths have been created by animal rights groups who want to fill other?s minds with distorted images of experiments.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  ...

PowerPoint is a complete and professional presentation package. These are the essential tools for her first step in entering the computer world. 2. IDENTIFY SOFTWARE CATEGORIES [pic] Software (Computer Software) is often divided into two categories: †¢ System Software †¢ Application Software 1. Definition of System software System Software used to operate the computer hardware, to provide resources and maintain a platform for running application programs. The set of instructions or programs of System Software can make up or create a basic environment for the applications software to work. They are responsible for controlling, integrating and managing the individual hardware components. Actually, it runs at the most basic level of your computer and the background; it is called â€Å"low-level† software. It generates the user interface and allows the operating system to interact with the hardware. It can be seen as the basics of a computer which come built-in or pre-installed. †¢ Types of system software †¢ Computer BIOS and device firmware, which is stored on non-volatile memory. They provide basic functionality to operate and control hardware connected to or built into the computer. †¢ The operating system (such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux), which supervise and control of the input and output of data from the computer and the others peripherals. It can be allows to transfer data between memory and disks or rendering output onto a display device. It provides a platform to run high-level system software and application software. And also it handles error routines, communication with the operator; ensure the efficient use of the CPU and the other devices. †¢ Utility software, which helps to analyze, configure, optimize and maintain the computer. 2. IDENTIFY SOFTWARE CATEGORIES [pic] [pic] [pic][pic] 2. IDENTIFY SOFTWARE CATEGORIES [pic] 2. Definition of Application software Application Software is a computer program designed to help the user perform a particular task or a certain type of work. This is a set of programs, which will comply with the user’s requirement. An application allows users to accomplish more than one specific function, such as a word processor, web browsers, e-mail programs, databases, desk top publishing, digital image and voice processing. Multiple applications bundled together as a package referred as an application suite. One typical example is MS Office, which bundles together with word processor, a spreadsheet, and several other discrete applications. The tailors systems can meet the user's specific needs, for example the accounting system or inventory system. [pic] [pic] 2. IDENTIFY SOFTWARE CATEGORIES [pic] 2. 3. The difference between system software and application software System software consists of programs that run in the background, enabling applications to work smoothly. These programs include assemblers, compilers, file management tools, and the operating system itself. While system software is automatically installed with the operating system, you can choose which application you want to install. Application software is different from system software or middleware, which is involved in integrating a computer various capabilities, but typically does not directly apply to the performance of tasks. The purpose of system software is to insulate the application program as much as possible from the details of the particular computer complex, especially memory and other hardware features. Such accessory devices are communications, printers, readers, displays, keyboards, etc. Application software is often purchased separately from computer hardware. Sometimes applications are bundled with the computer but they always run as independent applications, since they are often tailored for specific platforms. The separate applications in a suite usually have many common user interfaces which make it easier to learn and use and they may interact with each other. For example: PowerPoint file can be combining with a spreadsheet and a word documents. Therefore, application software determines what processing is done by the computer. System software determines how that processing will be done. 2. IDENTIFY SOFTWARE CATEGORIES [pic] 2. 3. The difference between system software and application software pic] Operating System and Application Software This diagram shows the components of the operating system and typical application programs that run in a desktop computer. 3. Two examples of system software and the benefits [pic] One of software categories is system software; the most important type is operating system (OS) . It is an interface be tween hardware and users, responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the resources.
